(Kare, 2024-09) Çalışkan, Behice Belkıs; Güneş, Ayşegül; Tekin, Yasemin Eda; Ayvaz, Meryem Yıldız; Kızıl, Hamiyet; 292320
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effect of a mindfulness-based program applied to nurses working in the emergency department on their anxiety and professional quality of life. Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled experimental study with 50 nurses working in the emergency department. Data were collected with a sociodemographic information form, state-trait anxiety & imath;nventory (STAI), and quality of life scale for employees (ProQOL-30). Mindfulness-Based Program (FTP), which lasted for 8 weeks and was an application of 2.5 h/week, was applied to the experimental group. A pre-test before the application and a post-test after the application (1 week after the application was completed) were administered to the experimental and control groups. In evaluating the data, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Kurtosis, Skewness, Chi-Square, and Fisher's exact tests were used. Results: It was found that the STAI state and trait anxiety pre-test mean scores of emergency nurses were not significantly different between the experimental and control groups (p>0.05), but the STAI state anxiety post-test mean score was significantly lower in the experimental group (t=-3.527, p=0.01). In addition, no significant difference was detected between the ProQOL-30 scale general and all subscale pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups (p>0.05). In addition, while there was no significant difference between the ProQOL-30 scale general and sub-dimension pre-test and post-test scores of the control group (p>0.05), it was found that the ProQOL-30 general score average increased significantly after the application (t=-2.113). Conclusion: It was concluded that the mindfulness-based program is a program that reduces the anxiety levels of emergency room nurses and increases their work-life satisfaction levels.

Effect of motivational interviewing on medication adherence in patients with bipolar disorder: systematic review
(Lut Tamam, 2024-10) Erkuş, Şeyma; Babaoğlu, Elçin; 372023
This systematic review was conducted to examine the effect of motivational interviewing method on compliance with medication treatment in individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In this systematic review, the literature was searched in the databases of ''Cochrane, SpringerLink, Ovid, Science Direct, PubMed, ProQuest, Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), ULAKBIM, YÖKTEZ'', published in the last 5 years, in English language, using the keywords and combinations of ''motivational interviewing'', ''bipolar disorder'', ''adherence''. The titles and abstracts of the studies were reviewed and 6 studies, including 4 randomized controlled trials and 2 nonrandomized studies, that met the inclusion criteria were included in the systematic review. As a result of this systematic review, it was determined that the motivational interviewing method was effective in increasing medication compliance in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In the studies, it was determined that motivational interviewing was applied alone, with medication reminder system or with an educational program. It was determined that motivational interviewing was applied twice a week or twice a month, between 20-60 minutes and between 3-6 sessions. Subjective and objective measurement tools assessing medication adherence and symptoms were used to evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing. It is recommended to increase randomized controlled experimental research examining the effect of motivational interviewing method on medication adherence in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder and to use motivational interviewing techniques and skills by mental health professionals to increase patients' medication adherence.

Madde kullanım bozukluğu olan hastalarda çözüm odaklı terapinin psikososyal sorunların azaltılmasına etkisi: sistematik derleme
(Erkan Mor, 2024-10) Erkuş, Şeyma; Babaoğlu, Elçin; 372023
This systematic review aims to assess the impact of solution-focused therapy (SFT) on mitigating psychosocial issues among patients with substance use disorder. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases including PsycInfo, SpringerLink, Cochrane, PubMed, ProQuest, Science Direct, Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), and ULAKBIM. Articles published within the past decade in English were included, with search terms comprising “substance use disorder,” “solution-focused therapy,” and related combinations. After screening titles and abstracts, eight studies—four randomized controlled trials and four non-randomized studies—met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Findings suggest that SFT has a beneficial effect on reducing psychosocial challenges in substance use disorder patients. SFT demonstrated efficacy in alleviating symptom distress, interpersonal relationship issues, social role dysfunction, impulsivity, well-being deficits, and addiction-related symptoms. Additionally, it was found to support recovery processes, enhance self-efficacy, foster an internal locus of control, and reduce trauma and anxiety symptoms. SFT was administered in individual or group formats, with session durations ranging from 30 to 90 minutes, delivered either twice weekly or biweekly over 1 to 12 sessions. Subjective measures assessing psychosocial outcomes were predominantly used across studies to evaluate the impact of SFT. The review highlights the need for more randomized controlled trials to further validate the effectiveness of SFT in this population.

Hope and psychological resilience in primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness followed in a community mental health center
(Elsevier, 2024-03) Erkuş, Şeyma; Babacan Gümüş, Aysun; 372023
Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine hope and psychological resilience in primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness. Design and methods: The descriptive study was conducted on 297 caregivers in community mental health centers in Turkey. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, Dispositional Hope Scale and the Resilience Scale for Adults. Findings: Hope and psychological resilience of primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness were moderate. To sociodemographic and caregiver characteristics; caregivers who are over 40 years old, lost his/her spouse, low education level, housewife or retired, unemployed, who evaluated their incomes low, mother, living in the same house with the patient, caring for ten years or more, caring for another patient and not getting help in care had lower hope and resilience levels. Compared to patients with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, caregivers of patients with schizophrenia had lower hope and psychological resilience levels. Conclusions: Primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness should be supported in terms of hope and psychological resilience.

The effects of two different cold application times on edema, ecchymosis, and pain after rhinoplasty: a randomized clinical trial
(Elsevier, 2024-01) Tekin, Yasemin Eda; İyigün, Emine; Karakoç, Ömer; 292320
Purpose: This study was performed to determine the effects of different cold application times to the periorbital area after rhinoplasty on edema, ecchymosis, and pain. Design: A randomized clinical study. Methods: Patients were divided into two groups, and cold application was applied to one group for 4 hours and to the other for 48 hours. The cold application was applied with ice packs for 20 minutes every hour to the periorbital region in both groups. Data were collected with the Patient Information Form, Scoring Diagram for Edema, the Scoring Diagram for Ecchymosis, and the Visual Analogue Scale for Pain. Findings: Periorbital edema, eyelid ecchymosis, and pain were not significantly different between the two groups. The mean edema score of the 48-hour group was 0.87 ± 0.93, while the mean edema score of the 4-hour group was 0.70 ± 0.87 (P = .48) on the 2nd day. The mean ecchymosis score was found as 2.03 ± 1.12 in the 48-hour group and 2.10 ± 1.09 in the 4-hour group (P = .817). The mean pain score was 12.50 ± 17.40 in the 48-hour group and 13.00 ± 16.00 in the 4-hour group (P = .98). Conclusions: The effects of 48-hour and 4-hour cold applications are similar. Cold application for 4 hours may be recommended to patients who undergo rhinoplasty, as it is more practical and easier to apply than the 48-hour practice.
