Method: A total of 61 mothers aged 20–45 years participated in the study, including 27 mothers with musculoskeletal pain, as determined by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and 34 mothers without musculoskeletal pain. The physical activity levels of the mothers were assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form (IPAQ), pain status with the VAS, depression levels with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and quality of life with the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Results: Body mass index, NHP, PSQI, VAS and number of pregnancies were statistically significantly different between the two groups (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the results of IPAQ, BDI, number of children, number of miscarriages, smoking, presence of care assistants, educational status and economic status (p>0.05). Conclusion: Musculoskeletal pain negatively affects the sleep quality and quality of life of mothers of children with disabilities. Depression levels and physical activity levels were high in both groups. In addition, factors such as sociocultural and number of children are also associated with musculoskeletal pain.
- ItemA simple magnetic resonance scoring system for predicting suitability for primary anterior cruciate ligament repair(Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi, 2024-08) Kılızay, Yusuf Onur; Erdoğmuş Gülcan, Server; Yılmaz, Hazal Berfin; Yalçın, Gülay; 334080; 392815; 202217; 308202Objective: This study developed a simple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scoring method to assess the suitability of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remnant for primary repair and aimed to test the success of this scoring method on operative images of patients undergoing early ACL surgery. Methods: The video-recorded operative images of patients who underwent ACL reconstruction and the MRI images of the same patients taken in our hospital were retrieved from the hospital archive. Two surgeons evaluated whether the ACL could be primarily repaired on the video images recorded during the operation. Magnetic resonance primary repairability (MPR) scores and repairability status on video images were compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was 30.4 ± 8.6 years. The evaluation of remnant size on MRI showed moderate agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.605). The assessment of the repairability score based on MRI and video observation demonstrated substantial agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.743 and P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.762, respectively). Conclusion: The MR primary repairability score (MPR score) is suitable for use in the decision-making process for the primary repair of the ACL.
- ItemA study of the reliability and validity of the Mindfulness Parenting Scale in Infancy and the examination of Mothers' Mindfulness in Pareting in Turkish samples(UNIV POLITECNICA VALENCIA, EDITORIAL UPV, 2025-10) Sezgin, Elif; 157389The research aims to assess the reliability and validity of the Mindful Parenting in Infancy Scale (MPIS) for mothers with infants aged 0-24 months and to analyze their mindfulness levels across various variables. The study included 353 mothers from Bursa's Nil & uuml;fer and Osmangazi districts, with data collected in private nurseries and daycare homes between December 2023 and March 2024. Teachers distributed the data collection tools, which included the "Mother and Baby Information Form" and the MPIS, developed by Gartstein (2021). Adaptation permissions were secured, and the scale's language, content, and structure were validated. Reliability was measured using the Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlations. Statistical analyses included independent samples t-test and One-way ANOVA to explore MPIS scores across demographic variables. The Levene test assessed homogeneity, while kurtosis and skewness evaluated normal distribution. The internal consistency coefficient was 0.74, with item-total correlations ranging from 0.35 to 0.49. The findings indicated no significant differences in mindfulness based on mothers' age, education, or family type, but highlighted variations based on the birth order of the baby.
- ItemAn examination of the psychological resilience of preschool children with and without Montessori education(Wiley, 2024-08) Sezgin, Elif; Şener, Tülay; 157389This study aims to compare the psychological resilience of children who receive Montessori education with those who do not receive Montessori education(the group attends a school where education is provided according to the Preschool Education Programme of the Ministry of National Education). The study used the Relational Scanning Model Comparison Types to compare the psychological resilience of children who received Montessori education with those who did not. The research involved 99 children aged 3–6 years who received regular preschool and Montessori education during the 2021–2022 academic year. It is reported that no developmental or neurological defects were observed in any of the participants. The study group comprised 50 children aged 3–6 years from a private kindergarten affiliated with National Education in Nilüfer district and 49 children aged 3–6 years from a private Montessori kindergarten in Nilüfer district. According to the study, children who received Montessori education demonstrated comparatively higher levels of psychological resilience than those who did not receive Montessori education. It has been observed that there exists a weak but meaningful correlation between the psychological resilience of children and their social relationships/social performance, particularly in those who have received Montessori education for an extended duration. As a result, it can be inferred that Montessori education positively impacts children's psychological resilience.
- ItemComparison of Breathing Exercises and Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation Effects on Autonomic Nervous System Activity and Respiratory Functions in Healthy Adults: An Active Comparative Controlled Study(Wiley, 2025-12) Yalçın, Gülay; Özden, Ali Veysel; 308202Introduction Vagal modulation is achieved directly by transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation, whereas breathing exercises stimulate arterial baroreceptors. In this study, we aimed to compare these two methods, which have similar effects. Methods 88 healthy participants aged 18–35 were randomly divided into breathing exercises (Group BE) and vagus stimulation (Group VNS). Thoracic expansion exercise was performed in the BE group. In the VNS group, biphasic electrical stimulation was applied to both ears with a pulse width of 300 ms, a frequency of 10 Hz, and 20 min. Pulmonary function tests were measured on the first and last days. Heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, RMSSD, PNN50, LF/HF, LF Power, and HF Power values were measured before and after each of the 10 sessions for both groups. Results Heart rate decreased significantly in both groups, with significant superiority in the BE group compared to that in the VNS group. In both groups, blood pressure values decreased significantly. RMSSD, PNN50, and HF values increased significantly in the VNS group, while LF and LF/HF values decreased significantly in the BE group. In pulmonary function test results, the FEV1 value increased significantly in both groups. A significant increase in the FVC value was observed in both groups, but the BE group was superior. The two groups had no significant superiority in the FEV1/FVC value. Conclusion As a result, auricular vagus stimulation seems superior to breathing exercises in increasing the parasympathetic system activity, reducing sympathetic activity, and partially increasing respiratory functions.
- ItemComparison of clinical and radiological results of lateral retinacular release or lateral retinacular lengthening methods combined with medial retinaculum plication in patellofemoral instability(Cureus INC, 2022) Saylık, Murat; Bilgin, Yücel; Atıcı, TeomanIntroduction In this study, we aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of patients who underwent medial retinaculum plication (MRP) combined with lateral retinacular release (LRR) or lateral retinacular lengthening (LRL) with the diagnosis of patellofemoral (PF) instability. Methods In our study, we retrospectively analyzed 75 knees of 75 adult patients (43 females and 32 males) who underwent MRP+LRR or MRP+LRL due to PF instability without osseous pathologies. Patients were divided into two groups (MRP+LRR and MRP+LRL) according to the surgical method. The clinical and radiological results of the two groups were compared. Results MRP+LRL surgery was performed on 45 knees and MRP+LRR surgery on 30 knees. The mean age was 26.5 (18-43) years. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the change in patellar lateral shift (PLS) (p=0.429) and congruence angle (CA) (p=0.218) values. However, there was a significant difference between the two groups in the change in patellar tilt angle (PTA) (p=0.009) and lateral patellofemoral angle (LPFA) (p<0.001) values. The change in PTA and LPFA values was higher in the MRP+LRL group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of pre-operative and post-operative Lysholm knee scoring scale (p=0.205, p=0.228), Kujala pain scale (p=0.393, p=0.596), and Tegner activity level scale values (p=0.121, p=0.899). Conclusions MRP+LRR or MRP+LRL provided successful results for correcting the instability in PF instability without osseous pathologies such as patella alta, tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) dysplasia, trochlea dysplasia, genu valgus, and tibial-femoral torsion. While PTA and LPFA values improved more with the MRPLRL method, clinical results were similar in both methods.
- ItemCOMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF NERVUS VAGUS STIMULATION, TENS, AND BACKUP STIMULATION DEVICE ON THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM AND PAIN IN FIBROMYALGIA PATIENTS(TÜRKİYE FİZYOTERAPİSTLER DERNEĞİ, 2025-09) Yalçın, Gülay; Kayış, Rukiye; Beceni, Esra; Külekçioğlu, Sevinç; 308202; 392833Purpose: This study aimed to compare the acute effects of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and the backup stimulation device (Backup) on pain, sympathetic, and parasympathetic nervous system functions in fibromyalgia patients. Methods: Thirty fibromyalgia patients (aged 20-45) from a hospital in Bursa were randomly assigned to three groups: VNS, TENS, and Backup stimulation device. Each group received a 30-minute session once weekly for five sessions. Pain was assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS), and sympathetic and parasympathetic functions were measured with the Elite heart rate variability device. Parameters included heart rate, root mean square of successive differences, proportion of NN50 divided by total RR intervals, low-frequency/high-frequency (LF/HF) power, and LF/HF ratio. Results: No significant post-intervention changes were found in autonomic parameters across groups (p>0.05). However, all groups showed a significant reduction in VAS scores (p<0.05), indicating effective pain relief. Heart rate significantly decreased only in the Backup group (p<0.05), suggesting a shift toward parasympathetic dominance. Between-group analysis revealed significant differences in VAS scores between the TENS and VNS groups, and the VNS and Backup groups (p<0.05), indicating variability in pain response. Conclusion: TENS, VNS, and Backup stimulation devices effectively reduce pain in fibromyalgia patients. The heart rate reduction in the Backup group suggests a potential effect on autonomic regulation, which may offer a beneficial approach for managing fibromyalgia symptoms. Although autonomic parameters showed no significant changes overall, further research is needed to understand the long-term effects and clinical relevance of these treatments.

- ItemConversion Bariatric Surgery, Ketogenic Diet, and Intermittent Fasting in Bariatric Surgery Patients with Recurrent Weight Gain: a Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial(Springer, 2026-04) Şen, Seher; Erdem, Nihal Zekiye; Durak, Doğukan; 409851Background Recurrent weight gain (RWG) after metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) increases the need for alternative treatment strategies. This study evaluated the effects of conversion bariatric surgery (CBS), very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD), and time-restricted intermittent fasting (TRIF) on anthropometric measurements, biochemical parameters, and dietary habits in patients who experienced suboptimal clinical response (SCR) or RWG after bariatric surgery. Methods This study included 56 patients, allocated to four groups (CBS, VLCKD, TRIF, and control; n = 14 each). Weight, waist-hip measurements, body composition, glycemic/lipid profile, and serum levels of specific vitamins and minerals were assessed at baseline and at week 6. Energy and nutrient intakes were calculated using BeBiS-9. Results Data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0. The percentages of total and excess weight loss differed significantly among the groups (p < 0.001), with CBS (9.07–28.5%), VLCKD (9.12–31.85%), TRIF (5.09–14.97%), and control (0.97–3.40%). Additionally, the pre- and post-intervention differences in fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, cholesterol, LDL-C, triglyceride, and uric acid levels varied significantly among the groups. VLCKD showed a more prominent effect on glycemic parameters, whereas CBS had a more beneficial impact on the lipid profile. In intervention groups, daily energy, carbohydrate and fat intake (g/day) decreased; protein percentages increased; the frequency of consumption of energy-dense foods decreased; and healthy food preferences increased. Conclusions Consequently, clinically significant improvements in weight management and metabolic parameters were observed in CBS, VLCKD, and TRIF groups under multidisciplinary team follow-up. These findings suggest that dietitian-led VLCKD and TRIF interventions may be considered as alternative treatment options before deciding on CBS.
- ItemDetermining the effect of diet quality on nutritional status and type 2 diabetes risk in adult females(Bayrakol Medical Publishing, 2024-10) Uray, Ecem Özge; Batar, Nazlı; Tuna Tuğba; 256218; 336342Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of diet quality on nutritional status and type 2 diabetes risk in adult females. - ItemDoes Pulmonary Function Testing Affect Autonomic Nervous System Activity?(GALENOS PUBL HOUSE, 2026-03) Yalçın, Gülay; Erdoğmuş Gülcan, Server; Kavlak, Erdoğan; 308202; 392815Objective: The autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates vital functions such as heart rate (HR) and respiration. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs), which require forced breathing maneuvers, may influence ANS activity, potentially affecting the accuracy of autonomic measurements. This study aimed to investigate the effects of PFT on ANS activity and to assess the reliability of the test order. Material and methods: Forty-eight healthy university students (32 women, 16 men; mean age 19±0.92 years) participated. ANS activity was assessed by heart rate variability (HRV) analysis using the Elite HRV Corsense device. HRV was recorded at rest in a seated position (first measurement), was repeated after a 5-minute rest (second measurement), and was recorded again following PFT performed with a Medwelt SP10 spirometer (third measurement). Results: Comparison of the first and second measurements showed a statistically significant increase only in the root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD) parameter, with no significant changes in other indices. Comparison of the second and third measurements revealed no significant differences in RMSSD or average HR; however, significant changes were observed in the low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) components and in the LF/HF ratio. Conclusion: Respiratory maneuvers during PFT may temporarily alter ANS activity, particularly affecting parasympathetic-sympathetic balance. The differences between the first and second measurements emphasize the importance of adequate rest periods before HRV assessment. Measurements taken prior to PFT appear to be more reliable for the accurate evaluation of autonomic function.
- ItemEffect of Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM17938 to prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea in children: prospective, multi-center, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial (PEARL Study)(Springer, 2025-06) Dinleyici, Ener Çağrı; Özen, Metehan; Güven, Şirin; Dalgıç, Nazan; Karbuz, Adem; Sütçü, Murat; Yazar, Ahmet Sami; 243394Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is one of the side effects that occur during and after antibiotic use. Some probiotics have strain-specific beneficial effects on AAD development when used in combination with antibiotics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 on the prevention of AAD in children. This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in T & uuml;rkiye between 2017-2019, among outpatient children with acute otitis media (AOM) or acute rhinosinusitis (ARS). Group 1 (n = 330) received amoxicillin-clavulanate and L. reuteri DSM 17938 (2 x 10(8) CFU) and Group 2 (n = 324) received amoxicillin-clavulanate and a placebo during the antibiotic treatment or continued for 21 days after antibiotic cessation. The primary end point of this study was the percentage of children with AAD in the first 14, 21, and 56 days of follow-up. Secondary endpoints are the percentage of children with AAD regarding the AOM vs ARS, amoxicillin-clavulanate dose, age groups, and the comparison between 14- and 21-days use of L. reuteri. The percentage of children with AAD was significantly lower in the L. reuteri group compared to the placebo group at 14 days (7.9% vs. 16.7%; RR: 0.47, 95%CI 0.30-0.7; p < 0.001); at 21 days (8.8% vs. 17.9%; RR: 0.49, 95%CI 0.32-0.74;p < 0.001); and at 56 days (9.1% vs. 19.6%; RR: 0.46, 95%CI 0.30-0.69;p < 0.001). The incidence of AAD was also significantly lower in the L. reuteri group at 14, 21 and 56 days among children aged between 6-24 months (p < 0.01, p < 0.01, p < 0.001) or children with AOM (p = 0.0001,p < 0.0001,p < 0.0001). When AAD was observed, the mean duration of diarrhea was longer in the placebo group(p < 0.05). Conclusions: This first study with L. reuteri DSM 17938 in a large pediatric outpatient setting showed significant reduction of AAD during the first 14 days of antibiotic use and the 8-week follow-up period. Trial Registration: NCT02765217 (First Submitted 02.05.2016) (https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT02765217?term=NCT02765217&rank=1).

As a result of this systematic review, it was determined that the motivational interviewing method was effective in increasing medication compliance in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In the studies, it was determined that motivational interviewing was applied alone, with medication reminder system or with an educational program. It was determined that motivational interviewing was applied twice a week or twice a month, between 20-60 minutes and between 3-6 sessions. Subjective and objective measurement tools assessing medication adherence and symptoms were used to evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing. It is recommended to increase randomized controlled experimental research examining the effect of motivational interviewing method on medication adherence in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder and to use motivational interviewing techniques and skills by mental health professionals to increase patients' medication adherence.
- ItemEnvironmental impact of athletes’ diets greenhouse gas emissions, water footprint, and sustainability awareness(Springer, 2026-01) Acar, Selva; Tuna, Tuğba; Ersoy, Nesli; 336342This cross-sectional study evaluated the environmental impact of athletes’ dietary patterns by estimating greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE) and water footprint (WF). It also assessed knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to sustainable nutrition using a structured questionnaire aligned with the FAO definition of sustainable diets. Conducted between January and August 2023 in Ankara, the study included 100 elite athletes (mean age: 21.0 ± 3.3 years; 65% female) from various sports disciplines. Dietary intake was assessed using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and GHGE and WF values were calculated based on life cycle assessment data. The mean GHGE and WF values of athletes’ diets were 3017.1 ± 1877.4 g CO₂-eq/day and 5.4 ± 3.2 mL/g, respectively. Male athletes and strength/power athletes exhibited significantly higher dietary environmental impacts than female and team sports athletes (p < 0.001 and p < 0.05, respectively). Red meat and animal protein consumption were strongly associated with higher GHGE and WF values (p < 0.001). Despite the increasing importance of sustainability, more than 90% of participants lacked accurate knowledge of sustainable nutrition. Moreover, a discrepancy was observed between athletes’ stated willingness to support environmental values and their actual food choices, indicating an intention–behavior gap. This study contributes to the limited literature by quantifying the environmental impact of athletes’ diets while concurrently examining sustainability-related behavioral factors. The findings underscore the importance of integrating sustainability principles into sports nutrition planning and education to reduce environmental impacts while maintaining performance goals.
- ItemEvaluation of Nutritional Recommendations Provided by the ChatGPT Language Model to Bariatric Surgery Patients(Sciendo, 2025-03) Kumru Yildirim, Merve; Bayam, Hikmet; Yildiz, Nida; Gök Kahraman, Fatma; Acar, Nazli; 256218ChatGPT is recognized as a promising tool in healthcare by providing continuous support, quick accessibility, and personalized guidance for weight management [1]. In the field of bariatrics, the potential of ChatGPT in post-surgery weight management and nutrition is particularly noteworthy. In a study, the accuracy of the model’s general responses to bariatric questions was confirmed; however, the reliability of its responses to nutrition-specific issues has not yet been examined [2]. In this study, the aim is to evaluate the nutritional recommendations provided by the ChatGPT language model for patients following bariatric surgery through expert dietitians. This study was designed as a cross-sectional study. The responses provided by the free version of the ChatGPT 3.5 were evaluated by three experts in bariatric surgery. Initially, frequently asked postoperative nutrition questions were identified based on input from three experts who consult bariatric patients. This process led to the creation of 27 questions, which were then posed to ChatGPT in Turkish, with responses recorded immediately. For evaluation, responses were categorized as: '1: consistent with the guidelines', '2: consistent but incomplete', '3: consistent but contradictory', and '4: inconsistent'. The responses were assessed by two experts, with a third expert reviewing any disagreements.
