- ItemA simple magnetic resonance scoring system for predicting suitability for primary anterior cruciate ligament repair(Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi, 2024-08) Kılızay, Yusuf Onur; Erdoğmuş Gülcan, Server; Yılmaz, Hazal Berfin; Yalçın, Gülay; 334080; 392815; 202217; 308202Objective: This study developed a simple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scoring method to assess the suitability of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remnant for primary repair and aimed to test the success of this scoring method on operative images of patients undergoing early ACL surgery. Methods: The video-recorded operative images of patients who underwent ACL reconstruction and the MRI images of the same patients taken in our hospital were retrieved from the hospital archive. Two surgeons evaluated whether the ACL could be primarily repaired on the video images recorded during the operation. Magnetic resonance primary repairability (MPR) scores and repairability status on video images were compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was 30.4 ± 8.6 years. The evaluation of remnant size on MRI showed moderate agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.605). The assessment of the repairability score based on MRI and video observation demonstrated substantial agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.743 and P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.762, respectively). Conclusion: The MR primary repairability score (MPR score) is suitable for use in the decision-making process for the primary repair of the ACL.
- ItemComparison of clinical and radiological results of lateral retinacular release or lateral retinacular lengthening methods combined with medial retinaculum plication in patellofemoral instability(Cureus INC, 2022) Saylık, Murat; Bilgin, Yücel; Atıcı, TeomanIntroduction In this study, we aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of patients who underwent medial retinaculum plication (MRP) combined with lateral retinacular release (LRR) or lateral retinacular lengthening (LRL) with the diagnosis of patellofemoral (PF) instability. Methods In our study, we retrospectively analyzed 75 knees of 75 adult patients (43 females and 32 males) who underwent MRP+LRR or MRP+LRL due to PF instability without osseous pathologies. Patients were divided into two groups (MRP+LRR and MRP+LRL) according to the surgical method. The clinical and radiological results of the two groups were compared. Results MRP+LRL surgery was performed on 45 knees and MRP+LRR surgery on 30 knees. The mean age was 26.5 (18-43) years. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the change in patellar lateral shift (PLS) (p=0.429) and congruence angle (CA) (p=0.218) values. However, there was a significant difference between the two groups in the change in patellar tilt angle (PTA) (p=0.009) and lateral patellofemoral angle (LPFA) (p<0.001) values. The change in PTA and LPFA values was higher in the MRP+LRL group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of pre-operative and post-operative Lysholm knee scoring scale (p=0.205, p=0.228), Kujala pain scale (p=0.393, p=0.596), and Tegner activity level scale values (p=0.121, p=0.899). Conclusions MRP+LRR or MRP+LRL provided successful results for correcting the instability in PF instability without osseous pathologies such as patella alta, tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) dysplasia, trochlea dysplasia, genu valgus, and tibial-femoral torsion. While PTA and LPFA values improved more with the MRPLRL method, clinical results were similar in both methods.
- ItemComparison of the quality of life of mentally and physically disabled children and their healthy siblings(Hacettepe Üniversitesi, 2024-09) Kavlak, Erdoğan; Erdoğmuş, Server; Kavlak, Ebru; Yalçın, Gülay; 392815; 308202Purpose: It is known that the health-related quality of life of children with neurological problems is adversely affected. But these problems also have a negative impact on the whole family. This study was conducted to examine the quality of life of children with mental and physical disabilities and their healthy siblings. Material and Methods: 82 children with mental and physical disabilities between the ages of 2-18 and their healthy siblings were included in the study. The sociodemographic data of the participants were recorded. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory was used to measure health-related quality of life, and the Gross Motor Function Classification System was used to evaluate the gross motor functions of children with disabilities. Results: 82 (48 boys, 34 girls) mentally and physically disabled children with a mean age of 9.87±5.06 years and 82 (34 boys, 48 girls) healthy siblings with a mean age of 12.68±3.65 were included in the study. When the quality of life of mentally and physically disabled children was examined, it was seen that there was no significant difference between the two groups (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between the quality of life of the healthy siblings of mentally and physically disabled children (p>0.05). Discussion: It was observed that the quality of life of healthy siblings of mentally and physically disabled children was similarly affected. It should not be forgotten that the quality of life of their families and healthy siblings will also be adversely affected during the treatment process of disabled children.
- ItemHope and psychological resilience in primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness followed in a community mental health center(Elsevier, 2024-03) Erkuş, Şeyma; Babacan Gümüş, Aysun; 372023Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine hope and psychological resilience in primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness. Design and methods: The descriptive study was conducted on 297 caregivers in community mental health centers in Turkey. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, Dispositional Hope Scale and the Resilience Scale for Adults. Findings: Hope and psychological resilience of primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness were moderate. To sociodemographic and caregiver characteristics; caregivers who are over 40 years old, lost his/her spouse, low education level, housewife or retired, unemployed, who evaluated their incomes low, mother, living in the same house with the patient, caring for ten years or more, caring for another patient and not getting help in care had lower hope and resilience levels. Compared to patients with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, caregivers of patients with schizophrenia had lower hope and psychological resilience levels. Conclusions: Primary caregivers of patients with a chronic mental illness should be supported in terms of hope and psychological resilience.
- ItemHow close are interprofessional debriefers to meet the INACSL standards of debriefing practices? a qualitative study(2023-12) Özata, Kevser; Caz, Büşra; Sarmasoğlu Kılıkçıer, Şenay; 167438Aim: This study aims to determine whether the debriefings performed by different health professions for nearly a decade meet the INACSL standards of best debriefing practices. Methods: In order for learning to occur in simulation, there must be a adequate debriefing session. An adequate debriefing should be based on the criteria described in the standards of best practices published by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). A high quality, adequate, and effective debriefing must be carried out in accordance with each standard. Results: Most of the debriefers are female. Over half had two years or less experience with simulation, and a quarter had training in simulation or debriefing. The results are presented in five contexts (Competent Debriefer, Environment, Effective Debriefing, Theoretical Framework, and Objectives and Outcomes.), which conform to the four standards covered by the INACSL standards of best practices. Conclusions: Except for the feedback, the debriefings do not meet the INACSL standards of best practices. However, the debriefers are aware of the importance of debriefing and are willing to improve their skills. Most of the debriefers have learned debriefing from observation or the literature. With this study, it was ensured that debriefers gained awareness in terms of INACSL standards. At the same time, this study will also provide awareness about the standards for the literature.
- ItemMultisource reflections on assessment of nursing students' first clinical practice and predictions for 360-degree assessment: a qualitative study(Hacettepe Üniversitesi, 2023-12) Bayzat, Çiğdem; Sarmasoğlu Kılıkçıer, Şenay; 167438Aim: This study was conducted to explain the current situation regarding the assessment of nursing students during their first clinical practice and to determine the views on 360-degree assessment, an innovative approach, from a multi-source perspective. Material and Methods: In this qualitative case study, individual interviews were conducted with nine instructors, focus group interviews were conducted with twenty-three nursing students, and documents were examined. Data were collected between 7 August 2019–22 November 2020. The data were analyzed in line with the descriptive analysis approach. Results: While reflections on the current situation were generated in line with the findings obtained from three data sources, the context of predictions on 360-degree assessment was generated in line with the findings obtained from interviews with students and instructors. Reflections on the current situation context are analyzed under assessors, competencies, methods and tools, feedback, challenges, and suggestions themes. Predictions on 360- degree assessment context are analyzed under assessors, frequency, tools, setting, benefits, and challenges themes. Conclusion: According to the results of the data triangulation, the most important issues regarding the assessment of nursing students during first clinical practice were the high student/instructor ratio and the fact that only instructors are officially assessors. Instructors and students approached positively to the 360-degree assessment, but they also shared some concerns.
- ItemThe effect of an educational video on patients' bowel preparation before colonoscopy: a single-blind randomized controlled study(Termedia Publishing House LTD, 2023) Güneş, Ayşegül; Tekin, Yasemin Eda; El, Çiçek; Bektaş, Hasan; 292320Background. The objective of this research was to assess the efficacy of bowel preparation (BP) and colonoscopy compliance of video training given to patients prior to colonoscopy. Material and methods. In this single-blind randomized controlled study, patients in the control group received traditional written instructions with the same content as oral instructions. A total of 139 patients were included in the study, 70 of whom were allocated to the video education group, and 69 to the traditional education group. After the procedure, both groups’ BP quality and satisfaction with education were measured. Sociodemographic Characteristics Form, Boston Bowel Preparation Scale, Colonoscopy Preparation Compliance Form, and Education Satisfaction Form were used in the study. Results. The BP quality scores of the patients in the video group were found to be higher than the traditional method (p<0.05). In addition, it was found that the educational satisfaction scores, general BP compliance score, solid diet compliance scores, and liquid diet compliance scores were higher in the video group than in the traditional method patients (p<0.05). Conclusions. Video-based colonoscopy preparation training is an effective alternative to traditional methods.
- ItemThe effects of two different cold application times on edema, ecchymosis, and pain after rhinoplasty: a randomized clinical trial(Elsevier, 2024-01) Tekin, Yasemin Eda; İyigün, Emine; Karakoç, Ömer; 292320Purpose: This study was performed to determine the effects of different cold application times to the periorbital area after rhinoplasty on edema, ecchymosis, and pain. Design: A randomized clinical study. Methods: Patients were divided into two groups, and cold application was applied to one group for 4 hours and to the other for 48 hours. The cold application was applied with ice packs for 20 minutes every hour to the periorbital region in both groups. Data were collected with the Patient Information Form, Scoring Diagram for Edema, the Scoring Diagram for Ecchymosis, and the Visual Analogue Scale for Pain. Findings: Periorbital edema, eyelid ecchymosis, and pain were not significantly different between the two groups. The mean edema score of the 48-hour group was 0.87 ± 0.93, while the mean edema score of the 4-hour group was 0.70 ± 0.87 (P = .48) on the 2nd day. The mean ecchymosis score was found as 2.03 ± 1.12 in the 48-hour group and 2.10 ± 1.09 in the 4-hour group (P = .817). The mean pain score was 12.50 ± 17.40 in the 48-hour group and 13.00 ± 16.00 in the 4-hour group (P = .98). Conclusions: The effects of 48-hour and 4-hour cold applications are similar. Cold application for 4 hours may be recommended to patients who undergo rhinoplasty, as it is more practical and easier to apply than the 48-hour practice.
- ItemThe mediating role of emotion lability and emotion regulation in the relationship between social-emotional adaptation with behavior regulation and social skills among preschool children(Muhammed Yıldız, 2023-12) Sezgin, Esin; Bilge, Yıldız; Çelik, Burçin; Sevuk, Esma Nur; 230880Self-regulation is defined as an individual's ability to control and regulate their own behavior; this skill, forming the foundation of social adjustment, influences one's ability to interact with their environment and manage relationships. Emotion regulation, on the other hand, involves the ability to manage emotional responses and is believed to establish a critical connection between social adjustment and self-regulation. In this study, the aim is to determine the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationship between behavioral regulation, social skills, and social-emotional adjustment skills using two different models.The study included a total of 216 children aged 5 and 6. Data were collected using the Socio-Demographic Information Form, Emotion Regulation Scale (ERS), Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS), and Marmara Social-Emotional Adaptation Scale (MSEAS). When socio-demographic variables were evaluated in terms of social competence and social-emotional adjustment scores according to gender, significant differences were found in favor of girls. Significant differences were also found in favor of children with working mothers when evaluated based on the mother's employment status. There were moderate significant correlations found between emotion regulation, child behavior assessment, and social-emotional adjustment. According to the mediation analyses, there was a partial mediating effect of emotion variability/negativity and emotion regulation in the relationship between behavior regulation and social-emotional adjustment. Similarly, there was a partial mediating effect of emotion variability/negativity and emotion regulation in the relationship between social competence and social-emotional adjustment. It is thought that the finding that children's emotion regulation and emotion variability/negativity mediate the relationship between social-emotional adjustment, social competence, and behavior regulation will contribute to the literature.

It also helps these students develop understanding and evaluating of the importance of these values like respect, honesty, empathy, and the like. They understand how to manage and live satisfactory quality lives.
