- ItemA comprehensive analysis of apricot drying methods via multi-criteria decision making techniques(Wiley, 2024-10) Abdulvahitoğlu, Aslı; Abdulvahitoğlu, Adnan; Cengiz, Nurten; 382420Food and food safety have been among the most important issues for people throughout history. Societies have always tried to be self-sufficient in food and have avoided becoming dependent on foreign sources. However, the fact that most foods are seasonal and the increasing population's food consumption have revealed the need to preserve foodstuffs for a long time. The old and well-known method used today for extending shelf life is the drying process. The drying process is preferred over other preservation methods for reasons such as being more economical, easier to transport, having a longer shelf life, more concentrated nutritional value, and containing fewer additives. This ensures that dried foods are of higher quality in terms of physical, chemical, microbial properties, and nutritional values compared to other packaged foods. While the drying process was traditionally done over a long period, technological advancements have led to the production of higher quality and more valuable commercial products in a shorter time. In this study, traditional and technological methods used in drying apricots were compared according to the parameters determined by experts in the field. Since multiple parameters are effective in the comparison, Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques were used. The optimum apricot drying method was determined by combining the results obtained from different MCDM techniques with the Borda rule.
- ItemA simple magnetic resonance scoring system for predicting suitability for primary anterior cruciate ligament repair(Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi, 2024-08) Kılızay, Yusuf Onur; Erdoğmuş Gülcan, Server; Yılmaz, Hazal Berfin; Yalçın, Gülay; 334080; 392815; 202217; 308202Objective: This study developed a simple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scoring method to assess the suitability of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remnant for primary repair and aimed to test the success of this scoring method on operative images of patients undergoing early ACL surgery. Methods: The video-recorded operative images of patients who underwent ACL reconstruction and the MRI images of the same patients taken in our hospital were retrieved from the hospital archive. Two surgeons evaluated whether the ACL could be primarily repaired on the video images recorded during the operation. Magnetic resonance primary repairability (MPR) scores and repairability status on video images were compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was 30.4 ± 8.6 years. The evaluation of remnant size on MRI showed moderate agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.605). The assessment of the repairability score based on MRI and video observation demonstrated substantial agreement between observers (P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.743 and P < .001, Cohen’s kappa = 0.762, respectively). Conclusion: The MR primary repairability score (MPR score) is suitable for use in the decision-making process for the primary repair of the ACL.

Objectives/Aims: This study aims to evaluate the influence of the MIND diet on RRMS by examining neurological, cognitive, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) parameters. Methods: Seventeen early-stage RRMS patients (aged 20-40, disease duration < 10 years, Beck Depression Inventory Score < 17) underwent MRI at baseline and following a 9-month adherence to the MIND diet. They were matched with 10 healthy controls. Diet adherence was assessed using the MIND Diet scale score. MRI encompassed structural and resting-state fMRI (RS-fMRI) sequences. Neurological evaluation (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS], Timed 25-Foot Walk [T25W], 9-Hole Peg Test [9HPT]), and cognitive assessments (Mini-Mental State Examination [MMSE], Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test [AVLT], phonemic and semantic fluency, forward and backward digit span tests [FDST, BDST]) were conducted. Functional connectivity was assessed using seed-based correlation (SBC) and global correlation by general linear model (GLM), focusing on Default Mode Network (DMN), Central Executive Network (CEN), Dorsal Attention Network (DAN), Salience Network (SN), Visual Network (VN), and Sensorimotor Network (SMN). Results: Patients exhibited high adherence to the diet throughout the 9-month period. Significant improvements were observed in dominant hand 9-HPT (p=0.023) and AVLT parameters (p<0.001), except delayed recall (p=0.982), following the intervention. Increased connectivity within the whole brain was noted in the left frontal orbital cortex of the 9th-month group compared to healthy controls (p=0.000005). Moreover, RRMS patients in the 9th-month group displayed enhanced functional connectivity in the bilateral caudate, bilateral pallidum, and right putamen within the DMN compared to baseline (p=0.000034). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest potential cognitive benefits of the MIND diet, as evidenced by improvements in AVLT scores. Furthermore, the observed alterations in Default Mode Network (DMN) connectivity in RRMS patients following the dietary intervention indicate a promising avenue for further investigation into cognitive deficit management in this population

- ItemHow close are interprofessional debriefers to meet the INACSL standards of debriefing practices? a qualitative study(2023-12) Özata, Kevser; Caz, Büşra; Sarmasoğlu Kılıkçıer, Şenay; 167438Aim: This study aims to determine whether the debriefings performed by different health professions for nearly a decade meet the INACSL standards of best debriefing practices. Methods: In order for learning to occur in simulation, there must be a adequate debriefing session. An adequate debriefing should be based on the criteria described in the standards of best practices published by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). A high quality, adequate, and effective debriefing must be carried out in accordance with each standard. Results: Most of the debriefers are female. Over half had two years or less experience with simulation, and a quarter had training in simulation or debriefing. The results are presented in five contexts (Competent Debriefer, Environment, Effective Debriefing, Theoretical Framework, and Objectives and Outcomes.), which conform to the four standards covered by the INACSL standards of best practices. Conclusions: Except for the feedback, the debriefings do not meet the INACSL standards of best practices. However, the debriefers are aware of the importance of debriefing and are willing to improve their skills. Most of the debriefers have learned debriefing from observation or the literature. With this study, it was ensured that debriefers gained awareness in terms of INACSL standards. At the same time, this study will also provide awareness about the standards for the literature.
- PublicationImmanuel Kant’s Moral Actions in Sarah Kane’s Blasted(Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi, 2024-12) Mustafa, Esma; 392828Sarah Kane’s Blasted is a harrowing exploration of violence, trauma, and the fragility of human morality in a world ravaged by brutality. Through the characters of Ian and Cate, Kane examines the collapse of societal structures, the abuse of power, and the enduring question of what it means to act ethically under extreme circumstances. The play’s graphic depictions of abuse and vulnerability force audiences to confront the raw complexities of morality, particularly in the context of suffering and survival. This paper investigates Ian’s transformation in Blasted through the lens of Kant's philosophy of moral actions. According to Kant, the morality of an action is determined not by its outcome but by the intention and adherence to moral duty guiding it. Ian's progression from an unjust aggressor to a helpless dependent raises critical questions about the ethical value of his later actions and whether they signify genuine moral growth. By contrasting Ian's behaviour with Cate's acts of selflessness, this analysis aims to uncover the more profound ethical implications of Kane's work, emphasizing how her play challenges and redefines the boundaries of morality in the face of unimaginable violence.

Conclusions: The study revealed that high LGI is associated with all-cause death in CTO patients and LGI was a predictor of all-cause death.
- ItemRelationship between maritime transport and economic growth: highest maritime transport european countries(Ordu University, 2025-01) Canbay, Şerif; Kırca, Mustafa; 278780Maritime transport is one of the most widely used transport channels used by countries in foreign trade. The development of maritime transport affects the economic growth levels of countries. In addition, the increase in the level of economic growth of countries increases their share in international foreign trade and this situation increases the importance given by countries to maritime transport day by day. The identification of the effects of maritime transport in countries will provide important information on what countries should do against the shocks they will face in the future. In this context, the study aims to determine whether there is any causality relationship between maritime transport and economic growth variables in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom, which have the highest maritime transport among European countries. The bootstrap panel causality test was employed to examine the causality relationships between the variables over the time frame of 2008:Q1-2020:Q2. According to the findings, there is a causality relationship from economic growth to maritime transport in all countries except Italy and the Netherlands. There is a causality relationship from maritime transport to economic growth in Türkiye and the United Kingdom. As a result, the relationship between maritime transport and economic growth varies from country to country. This situation reveals the necessity of developing national policies for maritime transport by considering the economic structures of the countries. These findings suggest that countries need more efficient and sustainable maritime transport policies.

- ItemShort-term prognostic value of the culprit-SYNTAX score in patients with acute myocardial infarction(MDPI, 2023) Peker, Tezcan; Boyraz, Bedrettin; 313898Background: The SYNergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with TAXus and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score is a scoring system that helps to decide on surgery or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), and studies are showing the prognostic value of this scoring system in both MI and coronary artery disease patients undergoing PCI. In acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients, the infarct-related artery and the complexity of the lesions are also important in terms of mortality and morbidity. Our study aimed to determine the prognostic value of the culprit vessel’s SYNTAX score (cul-SS) in patients presenting with MI. Methods: In our study, 1284 patients presenting with MI were analyzed retrospectively. The SYNTAX scores and cul-SS of the patients were calculated. In-hospital and 30-day deaths and major complications were accepted as primary outcomes. The SYNTAX scores and cul-SS were compared in terms of predicting primary outcomes. Conclusions: Major complications were observed in 36 (2.8%) patients, death in 42 (3.3%) patients, and stent thrombosis in 24 (1.9%) patients. The area under the curves for SYNTAX and cul-SS for predicting primary outcomes is 0.64 and 0.68 (p = 0.026), respectively. Cul-SS was as successful as the SYNTAX score in predicting stent thrombosis and was superior in predicting short-term death and major complications.
- ItemThe End of The World: Unveiling Dystopian Apocalypse in Caryl Churchill’s Far Away(RumeliYA Yayıncılık, 2025) Özçelik, Kaya; 351393; Tekin, FatmaIn today’s fast-changing world, it is clear that humanity is inclined more to the-end-of-world than ever, which can well be evidenced by the portrait of political and socio-cultural developments that directly impact the future of humankind. In this context, global trends towards autocracy or totalitarianism can well be observed through various conflicts and strategies in contemporary world politics, as is witnessed in the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Russian-Ukrainian war. In the world of fiction, these are all interpreted within the boundaries of dystopian and (post-)apocalyptic genres, each of which developed as a sub-genre of science fiction. While the deterioration of the once politically and socially peaceful world is analysed within the realm of dystopian fiction, the world plunged into apocalypse through several specific cataclysms, especially by man-made causes, are analysed within the boundaries of (post-)apocalyptic fiction in the world of literature. Thus, the intersection of dystopian and apocalyptic narratives has long served as a clear lens through which societies have examined their deepest anxieties - whether they stem from authoritarian rule, environmental collapse, or the erosion of truth and morality, which bring humankind closer to an inescapable end day by day. In contemporary literature and drama, these themes have gained an urgency to mirror a world grappling with political extremism, technological upheaval, endless wars, and so on that pave the way for nothing other than cataclysmic events, such as mind-controlling, nuclear holocaust, ecological crises out of many. Among playwrights who challenge traditional storytelling and expose systemic dysfunction, Caryl Churchill keeps her own as one of the foremost literary figures with her unique radical voice and daring who merges dystopian and (post-)apocalyptic elements to disclose starkly the contemporary portrait of the world by blurring the boundaries between realism and absurdity to leave her audiences/readers all alone to solve the knot. It is just at this point that Far Away gains more prominence in the world of literature/drama with its minimalist illustration of the knot tightened by an ongoing dystopian society as a precursor to an immanent and imminent apocalypse.
- ItemThe mediating role of emotion lability and emotion regulation in the relationship between social-emotional adaptation with behavior regulation and social skills among preschool children(Muhammed Yıldız, 2023-12) Sezgin, Esin; Bilge, Yıldız; Çelik, Burçin; Sevuk, Esma Nur; 230880Self-regulation is defined as an individual's ability to control and regulate their own behavior; this skill, forming the foundation of social adjustment, influences one's ability to interact with their environment and manage relationships. Emotion regulation, on the other hand, involves the ability to manage emotional responses and is believed to establish a critical connection between social adjustment and self-regulation. In this study, the aim is to determine the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationship between behavioral regulation, social skills, and social-emotional adjustment skills using two different models. The study included a total of 216 children aged 5 and 6. Data were collected using the Socio-Demographic Information Form, Emotion Regulation Scale (ERS), Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS), and Marmara Social-Emotional Adaptation Scale (MSEAS). When socio-demographic variables were evaluated in terms of social competence and social-emotional adjustment scores according to gender, significant differences were found in favor of girls. Significant differences were also found in favor of children with working mothers when evaluated based on the mother's employment status. There were moderate significant correlations found between emotion regulation, child behavior assessment, and social-emotional adjustment. According to the mediation analyses, there was a partial mediating effect of emotion variability/negativity and emotion regulation in the relationship between behavior regulation and social-emotional adjustment. Similarly, there was a partial mediating effect of emotion variability/negativity and emotion regulation in the relationship between social competence and social-emotional adjustment. It is thought that the finding that children's emotion regulation and emotion variability/negativity mediate the relationship between social-emotional adjustment, social competence, and behavior regulation will contribute to the literature.

The Finnish Type-2 Diabetes Risk Questionnaire assessment indicated that 90.7% of the students had a low to slight risk of diabetes. The results of the correlation analysis showed that as International Physical Activity Questionnaire scores increased, Finnish Type-2 Diabetes Risk Questionnaire scores decreased by 16.8% (p=0.003), and as SCOFF Eating Disorders Scale scores increased, Finnish Type-2 Diabetes Risk Questionnaire scores also increased by 28% (p<0.001). The results of the multiple regression analysis showed that International Physical Activity Questionnaire significantly predicted Finnish Type-2 Diabetes Risk Questionnaire score, accounting for 3.8% of the variance, while SCOFF Eating Disorders Scale predicted Finnish Type-2 Diabetes Risk Questionnaire score, accounting for 8% of the variance (p<0.001). Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that physical activity level and susceptibility to eating disorders have a significant effect on the development of diabetes mellitus.
- ItemThe Relationship between Resistant Hypertension and Advanced Glycation End-Product Levels Measured Using the Skin Autofluorescence Method: A Case–Control Study(MDPI, 2023-10) Peker, Tezcan; Boyraz, Bedrettin; 313898Resistant hypertension is hypertension that cannot be controlled despite the use of three antihypertensive drugs, one of which is a diuretic. Resistant hypertension often coexists with advanced age, obesity, smoking, and diabetes. Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are substances that are generated as a result of the glycation of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids due to conditions such as hyperlipidemia, oxidative stress, and hyperglycemia. There are studies showing the relationships between AGE levels and aortic stiffness, hypertension, and microvascular and macrovascular complications in diabetes. In our study, we examined the relationship between resistant hypertension and AGE levels. Our study was planned as a case–control study, and 88 patients with resistant hypertension were included in the focus group, while 88 patients with controlled hypertension were included in the control group. The AGE levels of the patients were measured using the skin autofluorescence method. AGE levels were found to be significantly higher in patients with resistant hypertension than those recorded in the control group. A significant increase in AGE levels was also observed in patients with resistant hypertension and without diabetes compared with the control group. The levels of AGEs, which can be measured cheaply, noninvasively, and quickly with the skin autofluorescence method, may provide benefits in identifying these patients with resistant hypertension.
- ItemThe role of advanced glycation end-product levels measured by skin autofluorescence in the development of mitral annular calcification(MDPI, 2023) Boyraz, Bedrettin; Peker, Tezcan; 313898As a person ages, mitral annular calcification develops in the mitral annulus with increasing frequency. Lipid deposition, inflammation, and aging-related degeneration have been cited as potential causes of this pathophysiology, though there is currently no conclusive evidence to support this. AGEs accumulate in tissues due to the glycation of proteins and lipids, increasing the release of proinflammatory cytokines secondary to oxidative stress through the AGE receptor. The AGE levels increase in diabetic microvascular complications and degenerative aortic valve disease. Our study was planned prospectively as a case–control study involving 94 MAC-positive patients and 94 MAC-negative patients. The demographics, echocardiographic data and AGE levels of the patients were measured and recorded using the skin autofluorescence method. AGE levels were significantly higher in the MAC-positive patient group (3.2 vs. 2.7; p < 0.001). The AGE levels were observed as an independent predictor of MAC development in a regression analysis (OR: 8.05, 95% CI: 3.74–17.33, p < 0.001). In a ROC-curve analysis, the AUC was 0.79 (95% CI: 0.72–0.85). At a cut-off value of 2.7, 79.7% sensitivity and 69.1% specificity were observed. AGE levels can be used to cheaply, easily and non-invasively identify patients at risk of developing MAC.
